Cinema Thinks the World is a research cluster at UBC bringing together scholars, filmmakers, and artists to explore how cinema engages with urgent global issues.

Our work bridges disciplines to de-westernise and decolonise film studies, connecting research and creative practice. We host screenings, talks, and collaborative events in partnership with the Cinematheque and other organisations, while also fostering projects that blend critical inquiry with audiovisual creation. From exploring Indigenous and Global South cinemas to rethinking the “posthuman” in film, the cluster is a space for dialogue, experimentation, and new ways of thinking the world through cinema.
